Custom user registration
November 23, 2009, 04:31:41 pm
Hi,

I'm sure this is in the documentation somewhere but I've probably missed it.

I want to build a user registration page where I want to add additional custom fields. These custom field inputs can range from textboxes to multiple checkboxes and as well as a field where the user needs to be able to upload a PDF file.

Example fields:
First Name: Single line textbox
Last Name: Single line textbox
Interests: Multiple line textbpx
Category: Six checkboxes
Resume: Ability to uplaod PDF file

Then this application sent by the user is to be approved by an administrator with an email detailing the outcome of their application.

So I was wondering if these requirements can be met by CiviCRM, or if I needed to do any custom development. Also if there any relevant articles/tutorials that you can link me, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

You can do this w/o any coding. Create custom fields for Interests and Category and Resume. Then create a "Profile" with all 5 fields and mark it as used for "User Registration". In the Profile's Advanced Settings - set the Notify on Submit to your admin email address. You might also want to set the "Add to Group" here (after creating a group for "Waiting Review" contacts) ... might help w/ your workflow to put applicants in a specific group until reviewed etc.

Check http://en.flossmanuals.net/civicrm for more background on custom fields and "capturing and exposing data" via profiles.
