When navigating to cron.php I get the white screen of death.  When I check the drupal log I get the following error:

Message Unable to fetch any information about available new releases and updates.

However the cron run completed successfully with a notice.  I tried checking the civicrm log and apache log but neither of them threw an error.  I'm thinking it may be a firewall issue..Has anyone else had this problem? 

Thanks Dave, I tried searching the drupal forums for drupal cron WSOD and similar phrases to no avail (there were threads they were just addressing a different issue) - the thread you found looks to be much better.  I've tried a few things recommended on replies to that thread and they haven't worked but I will keep looking.  Thanks again for the help!
