Joomla Contribute Email Field Billing Instead of Home

In Joomla, I have a Contact profile that is used as part of a CiviContribute page, and can subsequently be edited by the contact on a Profile page. It includes an Email (Home) field, but when an email is entered in this field in a CiviContribute page (new contribution or renewal), it shows up as an Email (Billing) field.

When the field is edited just on a Profile page, it stays as Email (Home) as it should, as long as it already was Email (Home).

Any ideas?

This happens on our Drupal site as well.

It's unexpected behaviour as it happens when people are renewing membership. They think they are overwriting the main email address, but they are only creating email billing addresses.

Is it supposed to happen, or is this a usability improvement?

I can't find an Issue for it.

Is this intended functionality?

Any suggestions for turning it off appreciated.
