Image Field for Contacts

An image field for contacts would be really great! Also in custom fields so they can be used in profiles.

Yes, it'd be nice.

A workaround in the meantime is to use the file type, and there is a bit of code in the forum (couldn't find it right now) with an example of resizing the image to make a thumbnail.

As Xavier notes, you can create a custom field / type = file to store contact image / photo. You can also expose this custom field in profile forms - and so allow your users to upload their own image. Images will display as 100 x 100 thumbnails in profile "view" pages.

I'm not sure why we never exposed a built-in contact image field in the past. I've added this as a task for the 3.2 release. If this is important and you have resources to help make it happen sooner, ping me at dave at civicrm dot org.

Would also be helpful to add an image in the event (or other WYSIWYG) fields.  I realize you can type in a URL, but using something like drupal IMCE/Image Browser or other would allow an admin to upload and select an image associated with an event.  Easily adding images (or video!) could add a lot of sizzle to the experience with a reasonable effort.
