civicreport: problem with relationship report
November 30, 2009, 03:00:14 pm
The machine this problem occurred on has Drupal 6.14, CiviCRM 3.0.2, and appropriate versions of Apache / MySQL / PHP installed to Ubuntu 9.04, a couple months ago. (I used apt-get to install apache/mysql/php).

It seems that when I try to run the civicrm relationship report (click the link for reports at the top of the screen, then click "relationship report") my server jumps to very high CPU usage and fails to respond to the client machine's request.

(the first time this happened, it was showing about 198% cpu usage according to the "top" program on the Ubuntu server; the second time, it was showing 100% cpu usage. I assume this is because the machine has a dual core processor - the first time the problem occurred I might have)

The specific process that used the large amounts of CPU was mysqld.

The same problem did not occur on the sample database. I didn't try adding lots of data to the test database but I wonder if the problem could be reproduced in a database that has about 10,000 individual contacts, each one having a relationship to one of ~100 organization contacts (as is the case in my database).

hey julian:

can you run a:

mysqladmin processlist (check mysqladmin --help for options)

alternatively if you send us your database, we can take a look and optimize the BAD queries for a future release. We'll destroy the DB when done

thanx
