Is it possible to interface CiviCRM with Typo3?

This is my 1st posting in the forum. I'm computer savvy; but have almost no working knowledge of either. I am with a work team trying to resolve some other questions & our CiviCRM knowledgeable team member is out of country.

We currently have significant site development invested into Joomla/CiviCrm & a friend of our cause has offered to do some significant website enhancements; but what he has proposed requires Typo3.
Thanks!

Thanks, Drupal is an alternative to Typo3; but doesn't help me with the core question.
Someone has offered to re-do our entire website at their own expense; but they will only do so using Typo3. We currently use Joomla & CiviCRM, hence the question, "Is it possible to interface CiviCRM with Typo3?

It is possible. BUT it will require a fair amount of work (and potentially maintainance going forward as both CiviCRM and Typo3 evolve) that it is definitely not recommended

If you *really* *really* want to do it, i would strongly recommend starting an open source project to integrate CiviCRM with Typo3. We can help and provide guidance but at this point are not willing to add another CMS to the mix :(

Hi All,

if you are interested on an integrated Version of CIVICrm into TYPO3 feel free to contact us.

SECURITY
Due to the huge security issues of Joomla and Drupal websites in the past we have chosen to integrate CIVICrm into the much more secure and flexible TYPO3 4.5 (upcoming 3 year LTS Long Term Support Release)

Check out the security issues of CIVICrm ( 1 Issue)
http://secunia.com/advisories/search/?search=CIVIcrm (exploit)

Check out the security issues of Drupal 6 ( 383 Issues - 14 Issues in August 2010!)
http://secunia.com/advisories/search/?search=Drupal+6&sort_by=date

Check out the security issues of Joomla ( 379 Issues - 15 Issues in August 2010! Most of those issues are NOT fixed and you need to edit the Source Code!)
http://secunia.com/advisories/search/?search=Joomla&sort_by=date

Compare it with TYPO3 ( 89 Issues - 3 Issues in August 2010 - all current Issues are fixed, nearly all issues got fixed immediately and made public on the same day! in TER http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/
http://secunia.com/advisories/search/?search=TYPO3&sort_by=date

PRIVACY
CIVICrm is storing lots of personal and financial Data so Customers are not very pleased if their data gets cross-site scripted, exposed or sql injected and fixes end often up with a comment like "Edit the source Code" - in other words you will loss more or less the ability to update your system at all (probably the biggest security risk)

TEMPLATING
TYPO3 using the Framework for TemplaVoila http://templavoila.busynoggin.com/ provides a much better Usability for Nonprogrammer which are actually maintaining all the sites after they have been setup. Lots of nice looking Tempates are already in TER and you can test them here http://demo.webempoweredchurch.org/. Template changes can be implemented often without the need of PHP/HTML Knowledge or a Programmer at all. The learning curve for non programmers who want to work on a TYPO3 site is much lower than in Drupal or Joomla where you need PHP and HTML know How!

Especially the System like it get Provided by WEC comes along with lots of very understandable Tutorials and videos. http://webempoweredchurch.org/support/classes/ Also Non Programmers can understand them!

LONG TERM SUPPORT
Beside this TYPO3 provides with Relaease 4.5 Long Term Support - a good Argument for our customers to choose and invest into TYPO3 instead of Drupal where the future how to integrate content from Version 6 to Version 7 is still not solved and they might have to reinvest 90% of the development again in creating a new site with a new Drupal or Joomla version. In TYPO3 it is abolutely no problem since TYPO3 3.5 in 2002 to update the core, extensions without loosing any of its content or redoing any of its structures or menus.

Originally we wanted to extend the stand alone version with TYPO3 Support but unfortunately the Developers of CIVICrm don't support/produce a standalone Version anymore.

WHY TYPO3?
Another Reason for preferring TYPO3 is the fact that this No1 CMS in Europe is used by huge companies and organizations i.e. like UNESCO, UNESCO Bangkok, East West Center, UNICEF and lots and lots of other NGO organisations which need a very specific and flexible User Rights Management what nor Joomla nor Drupal is providing right now. Also bigger companies like i.e. Cisco or Dassault etc which have needs in Events and Member Management are using TYPO3.

NEXT STEPS
As a first step we are working currently to integrate CIVICrm like it has been integrated into Drupal as Extension.
A second step would be to mix up the parallel functionality of both systems into one! i.e. Newsletters which are currently provided by 3 Systems. As there are directmail (TYPO3), an integrated shop solution with its news mailer (not public until now) and CIVICrm, but actually we would need only one system to perform all what is needed to send out Mass mailings.

Here it would be good to know from everyone using CIVICrm what is good on their News mailer or what is good on the News mailers in Drupal/Joomla if you are using them instead of the CIVICrm integrated one.

If you have further ideas/requests/exaples/experiences in integrating CIVICrm with TYPO3 4.5 feel free to contact us.

SUPPORT
Helpers and Sponsors for this project are more than welcome.

Thanks

Andi
