Internal and External names for fields: event names, profiles, etc.
December 04, 2009, 07:58:27 am
These are really two related issues.  Events can often have a public facing title (ie. Picnic) but their may be many of them that need to be managed internally (ie. Picnic1, October Picnic, etc.) we often find we have to fudge the title to 1) conform to how we want it displayed externally, 2) conform to how we want to manage it internally and 3) avoid duplication.  This can become a bit of a juggle.

Additionally, profiles have a similar issue - we want an intuitive description for the event manager but an outbound (marketing) way to describe.  For example "Name and Address with email required" might be the profile name to an admin, but "Please Provide your Contact Details" might be the way we want our user to see it.

I propose that all externally facing labels have an internal and external title.
