Hello,

I'm trying to figure out a way to record a corporate match to a contribution. Here's the situation: someone who works at a big, generous company makes a donation of $50, and the big generous company matches that donation with another $50, bringing the total contribution to $100. How should we record this in CiviContribute?

We need to reflect a total of $100 received, but we don't want all $100 to appear as if it has come from our member--we don't want to send this person a deduction letter for $100, only $50. And we'd like to keep track of the fact that the $50 match came from a specific company.

Has anyone found a cool way to handle this situation in CiviContribute? Thanks!

Would it work to create a new contribution type... Corporate Matches?

You log a $50 "donation" and a $50 "corporate match". When you generate your reports on contributions of type "donation" (for tax purposes), you see that the donor has given $50. When you run a report on all contributions, you see the entire $100.

Anyone else have bright ideas?
