Can't Log An Email Activity :(

Hello everyone,

I've installed CiviCRM but I'm having the most basic of hurdles.

I have added a new contact and want to log the fact that I've sent them an email. However, on the main contact page when I go to the dropdown for 'new activity' I only get:

Meeting
Phone Call
Interview
Send an Email

How can I log the fact that I've already sent an email?

I've gone to Adminster/Option Lists/Activity Types and there are loads there that do not appear in my drop down list (including one to log an email sent).

Where am I going wrong?

One suggestion -

Create an activity type called something like "Email sent outside civiCRM"

That way you won't send the poor hapless soul another email!

Longer term, train yourself - and everyone else - to always use the CRM to send mail

You can process you mail box using CiviMailProcessor.php script.

Thanks for the reply guys - will give it a go. I didn't create an activity because there is one there which is called Email Sent and it looks enabled.

But I'll do it anyway and see if it sorts things!

Hmm.. but customizing these are really not intuitive.

Maybe I'm just missing something. But I'd really like to have a 'follow-up' section for the "send an email" action.

But I can't seem to do that anywhere.

I second your request.

I, too, need a "Schedule Follow-up" along with Send an Email. It would seem this should be realtively easy to implement. Is there a switch somewhere to turn this on?

if important to you/your org please consider contributing code that is "relatively easy to implement" the feature you need.
