Changing the placement of the field help text on a profile form
December 10, 2009, 09:40:44 am
I've just built a form that will assist folks in filing a public comment in a policy proceeding.

Most of the fields are notes/text boxes and, by default, the field help text appears *below* the text box. For the form I've just built, the field help text is pretty long, and it's important for folks to read before they start typing.

Is there a way to have the field help text appear *above* the text box? Perhaps editing a template?

I agree. It would be more helpful if there could be a pre- and post-help field for Profile Fields as it really would make them much more useable.

Possible workaround (which you may have already settled on) is to use Profile-level help for both form "meta help" and help for the first field. Then put helps for each field in the post-help of the field above it. Since you can include HTML tags, you can mess around with spacing and some other simple layout stuff liking adding <hr> (horizonal rules) tags.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I will try messing around with a bit of HTML to help folks along.
