CiviCRM 3 in Drupal 6.

When editing contact information of any Organization contact (eg civicrm/contact/add?reset=1&action=update&cid=558), when I press Save I get redirected to civicrm/contact/add with error message:

Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:
One matching contact was found.
If you need to verify if this is the same contact, click here - Real Blue Sky - to VIEW the existing contact in a new tab.
If you know the record you are creating is a duplicate, click here - Real Blue Sky - to EDIT the original record instead.
If you are sure this is NOT a duplicate, click the "Save Matching Contact" button (this button is located at the bottom of the Contact Details section below).

There is absolutely NOT a duplicate contact record for these organizations.  I checked the actually database table using phpmyadmin, and there is definitely only one record for each organization.  If I click to View the existing contact it takes me to the exact same url as listed above (same contact id).  It's like the Organization contacts are detecting themselves as their own duplicate.  The only way to get the contact to edit is by clicking the Save Matching Contact button.

I've searched but haven't found this issue listed before.
