Is it possible to use CiviCRM without using Drupal for access controls?
December 12, 2009, 01:13:29 am
Hi-

We are planning on migrating from our current system to a CiviCRM/Drupal system.

But the Drupal piece is on a longer timeframe than the CiviCRM, so we had been intending to move our member data over to CiviCRM first and set up the new member registration in CiviCRM, just using CiviCRM to capture online contributions and store data about members' subscription status and level, and using .htaccess files to control access to our existing CMS, then rolling in the Drupal version later.

Is this possible?

I was just looking at the documentation for CiviCRM Standalone version and it looks like storing member login information with OpenID is a mandatory requirement?!? Unfortunately, OpenID is not an option for us.

So is there a way to accomplish what I describe using CiviCRM for Drupal but passing members off to our old CMS? Are there hooks built in to CiviCRM to kick off custom scripts based upon CiviCRM membership status? What would the login process need to be?

Thanks.

I would install drupal + civicrm, but not use the "CMS" part of drupal. User drupal for user authentication and civicrm permissioning

use civicrm hooks (implemented via your own drupal module) to fire off custom scripts based on membership status
