I think I found a couple (related) little bugs when using profiles in drupal registration.  These seem to have been introduced with 3.1b1 and I have reproduced them in the 3.1dev sandbox.

1. When a user fills out name fields in a profile but does not properly fill out the drupal registration fields, a contact is created anyway.  In the sandbox, I created the contacts "Fake User" and "Spam Bot" in this way.  Note that the only thing in the change log is the creation record.  This occurs even when drupal requires a CAPCHA.  (I have had a couple 'people' added to my contacts who's parents named them after popular pharmaceuticals.)

2. When a user fills out both the profile and the drupal registration correctly, duplicate contacts are created, one of which contains only the name fields.  I created the contacts for "Double Test" this way.

Kirk - thx for pounding on the new release! Can you file an issue against 3.1 with description of these two bugs (can put in a single issue). thx!

This was broken due to http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-5444
Can you verify both http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-5444 and http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-5538 are working fine for you.
