How to add a profile to CiviMail subscriptions
December 15, 2009, 02:13:19 am
Hi, I'm just wondering where (if possible) I can add a profile to CiviMail subscription pages? Don't quite see where profiles are available to suscriptions, I can see events contribute etc...

Howdy.  You should be able to create a Profile, add the fields you want to the Profile.  While creating the Profile, in the properties, in the "Advanced" tab below select that: upon submission, the Contact should be added to a certain Group.

If this Group is both:
   1. Public
   2. A mailing list

Then the person should be added to said mailing list Group automatically, and sent a confirmation email.

Here is an example from a site I did:

I was expecting the steps outlined above by Stoop to work for subscribing to a newsletter via a profile, but I can't get the opt-in to work: I have a profile, and upon submission, the Contact is added to a Group 'Newsletter'. This is a 'mailing list', public group. The confirmation email is sent to new contacts, but the created contact gets the 'Added' status for the Newsletter group without confirming the subscription.

Is the double opt-in possible using Profile? Or do I have to use the "civicrm/mailing/subscribe?reset=1&gid=3" method, in which case unconfirmed subscriptions do get 'Pending (by email)' status? This is using CiviCRM 3.1.2.

I haven't gotten this to work yet. It seems double opt-in should be working for profiles by default, BUT:
1) "Add new contacts to a Group" on the Advanced Settings of a profile will not work with double opt-in, the user will not get 'Pending' group status, but 'Added' (without confirming).
2) Using a checkbox for a group (mailing list, public) on a profile should work.
(via Kurund on IRC)

I'm trying to get this second option to work, but so far without luck - subscribers immediately get 'Added' group status. I'll update later.
Edit: option 2) just works, I had accidentally enabled the "Add new contacts to a Group" option on that test profile too.
