Search Profiles Don't Work After Migration
January 02, 2010, 02:04:42 pm
I have struggled through a migration which is now successful except for this detail: my directory profiles don't work, neither existing nor new ones.  They show no records at all.  Any idea what might cause this?
Thanks to those who help create and enhance civiCRM!

Hi Kurund.  Happy new year!
Right now I'm using 3.0, beta 2
In the back end, when I make a profile and preview, I get no records listed.  (Profile is checked, search results is not, and it's limited to a specific group.)  When I look at one that worked before the migration, the same thing happens.
In the front end I get the following error when navigating to the menu item linked to a profile: Could not find the required contact id parameter (id=) for viewing a contact record with a Profile.
thanks
Christopher

I would recommend to upgrade your CiviCRM install to latest 3.0.x release and check if issue persist.

OK, finally upgraded and the problems persist.  Other profiles in the backend or front work fine.  Directory profiles in back end or front end show no results.  I tried creating a new profile and it also does not show any results.

It's not working on the demo site either.  I've created a profile called 'test directory'
I must be doing something wrong.  But what?
I can't find documentation for this, specifically for creating directory lists.

Thank you, Kurund.  That's not what I'm going for.  I'm using these profiles to display board members (that is restrict search results to group "board" and show display name, city, e-mail and phone number) and a similar one for press contacts.  Something that matches the last example on http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Basic+Profile+Functions and shows perhaps 15 contacts, just like the search results.

I've found documentation in the on-line manual:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/CapturingExposing
(second half of the page)

However, I think I'm following the steps and it's not working.  I know I'm just missing something that should be simple, but I'm just really missing it.  But it did work before!

so this link works:

http://joomla.demo.civicrm.org/index.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/profile&gid=7&search=0&force=1

not sure why the menu creation generates a bad link. i'm checking it out. we'll try to have a fix for this before the next release

I did a fresh install (not a migration) of 3.0.5 on Joomla and mad a search link in the menu. I got
index.php?option=com_civicrm&view=Profiles&layout=search&Itemid=53

which works.

When you go into the menu manager do you see the tree, where first you pick profile and then you pick layout?

Also can you please paste the link that is in the menu manager?

Thank you guys,

putting in the links you say work do indeed work.  For the time being I'm just making menu items to external links and entering in the working link.

The link to the preview profile in the backend (which shows no records) is:
http://www.railvermont.org/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/uf/group&action=preview&id=3&field=0&context=group

Only the directory type previews do not work in the back-end or front end.

When I create a new front entry menu item for a profile, the link is:
index.php?option=com_civicrm&view=Profiles&layout=view
What's interesting is that the profile ID and so forth is not specified.

Yes, the Joomla menu creation process involves the tree where I first pick civiCRM and then pick a view profile layout and then opens the form with the link already specified as above.

Unfortunately, in my glee to fix things I deleted the old non-working front end menu link.
