Blank organisations after importing error
January 04, 2010, 04:18:00 am
Hi, I was just wondering if anybody can help me with this... I imported some contacts with a spreadsheet (CSV) for the first time, but I did something wrong and now some of the individuals are linked to "blank" organisations, and it won't let me delete the organisation, edit it or view it or delete the relationship, sending me to an error page stating "You are not authorized to access this page".
Any idea on how to fix this, how to delete these 'ghost' organisations?
Thanks!

How did you create blank organizations? Can you attach sample csv file.

Basically, as you can see from the file (I had to "XX" out the info because it's confidential data), every person is linked with an organisation. Since we've had problems with duplicate organisation, due to tiny differences in spelling, I thought I'd ignore that while uploading the data and only use the person's data, and later manually add the relationship with the relevant organisation (most of them already exist anyway). I tested it and it was fine, but when I loaded the rest of the data I had the problem described because in the field mapping I left out/ignored the Organisation name but not the Department (which, in our database, is under the organisation); it was a silly overlook that is now creating problems, because these organisations have no data but the department name, and CiviCRM doesn't seem to like this!
In answer to your other question, yes I do have the rights to delete and make any other changes, so that shouldn't be the problem. It doesn't even let me view the organisations so I'm assuming it's a problem with the data itself.

Hope you understand what I mean! :)

Can you import attached CSV file on http://sandbox.civicrm.org and save your mapping.

How do I do that? I created a new account to be able to access it, but I don't have the option to import contacts.. is it because I don't have the privileges to do so?
Thank so much for helping!

-So sorry, I just realised I should have used the "demo" user. Will do it that way.

-- It doesn't let me import it that way, as it says that the data is invalid. Is there any compulsory or particular field I should be aware of? And what should I put as "external identifier"?
