As of CiviCRM 3.0, the contribution honoree functionality is very similar to the contribution soft credit functionality. For the sake of consistency, usability, and easy of improvement, I think these two functionalities should be consolidated into one slightly more generalized functionality.

Making these changes myself will be difficult, because I'm new to this project and don't have a whole lot of time; but I figured I'd spec them out anyway so that maybe someone will take it on, or provide some feedback, or help me get started with making the changes myself.
