install mess.. pls help
January 05, 2010, 06:50:36 pm
ok this is the deal.

I was using civicrm v 2.1  It was running for a long time already.. working fine.

my boios asked me to upgrade to 3.0.3.  I read the instructions on how to do the upgrade..
I downloaded all the files to upgrade to 2.2 and then to 3.0.3.
i uninstalled the civicrm module and when i install the new one. since both had the same name, since I'm using a mac.
both files were called com_civicrm ... thing is that I was downloading both at the same time the one that ended first was 3.0.3 and I didnt realize. so I install the wrong one. well It never got to install cuz when i hit install 5 sec later i realized it was the wrong file. didnt know what to do so I hit the components link and my screen automatically changed to a new window. I checked the modules section and no civicrm was install. well.. next I install the right file. It install sucessful and it game me the option to upadate the database to 2.2.9 and I did. but it came with a error saying that the dabase was 3.0.3 already. so at this point I had no other option to install 3.0.3 and see if it will work. And for my luck when the installation finished and it came with the same optiong to upgrade the database it sent me the same message. The dabase is already at 3.0.3.
I log out joomla and log in again. went into civicrm and everything looked fine until I tryied to see events and I got errors on most sections that i try to enter to.
errors like
Sorry. A non-recoverable error has ocurred.

DB Error: no such table
Database Error Cose: Table 'linchous_joomla.civicrm_event' doesnt exist 1146

then it will give me a error detail like
 Error Details:

(
    [callback] => Array
        (

  • => CRM_Core_Error
  • [1] => handle
            )

I would recommend you should revert back to v2.1 version and retry entire upgrade process.

Assuming you have a backup of the db and files Kurund's idea is the best one..

That's what I have been trying to do. all day long. I even restored all the civicrm files from a backup and it just doesnt work. I tryied to install 2.1 back and it fails saying that I have tables i need to remove. Later I installed 2.2.9 and it went fine but got when trying to access it nothing shows up on the screen, only the titles but no dash. So I tryied to reinstall 3.0.3 to see if it works since the db is supposed to be at 3.0.3. But it didnt work.

Sounds like before going back to 2.1 (again) you'll have to make friends with phpMyAdmin and have a look at your database and manually delete the civiCRM tables (which are recognizable by their prefex).  If the entire site is backed up you could delete the whole thing, Joomla, database and all and reinstall the whole thing from your backup.  (Or you could just stuff all your files in a folder, rename your existing database and reinstall fresh so it's all still there if you want to reverse the delete . . . )
Thanks to those who help create and enhance civiCRM!

If you still have the backup (my host keeps backups for 7 days) . . . deleting and replacing the database would let you go back to to version 2.1 and start the process over and you could pretend you never installed the wrong one.
