can't view email activity

Hi!

When clicking on view or edit on an email in the activity list of an contact, I get an empty mail form, but can't view the send email!

I'm using 3.1b4.

Hi!

No, I can't reproduce it in the sandbox. There is no activity type "Email" inside the -new activity- drop down.  I found one contact, having allready a email-activity, and I'm able to view this message.

But on my live system (hosted at hetzner.de) and on my local test system (Ubuntu 9.10) it's all the same: I can send the mail, but can't view it later (I've tested it in Firefox and Chrome).

you need to configure 'Outbound Email' setting to get 'Send and Email' activity in activity drop down.

go to : Administer CiviCRM -> Global Settings -> Outbound Email (SMTP/Sendmail) and configure it accordingly.

Now go to contact tab send an test email and do check related activity record under Activity Tab.

No I did the test. Inside the sandbox, it works fine!

Now the question is: Is it a problem with my installation, or with standalone?

Hi!

I'm still working on this problem!

I did two screenshots. The first screenshot shows the activity view of an contact. When I click on "betrachten" (german for "view"), I get the screen on the second screenshot. An empty mail edit form! :-(

I get the same behavior for B4 and B5, with english and german translation, on my live server (shared hosting ad hetzner.de) and my notebook for testing (ubuntu 9.10).

Perhabs you may give me some hint, which configuration I should check or change, to get rid of this behavior.

Hi!

I'm using 3.1 beta5 (but same problem with beta 4) standalone.

On http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org, all things work like they should! But it looks different between the to sides: In my installation, after a email activity, I have links for view, edit and delete. On the demoside is only a link for view! (Screenshots attached!)

For email activity it should show only View link in the selector.

Your screenshot shows that you changed label of Email activity type, from "Email" to "E-Mail".  Hence you are able to see Edit & Delete link.

This is bug hence filed and fixed: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-5672

It was not me, who changed the label, it was the german internationalization. I've just switched language back to english for the screenshots.

I give your patch a try! I'm shure, it will fix the problem!

Wow, I have been struggling with this same issue for a month or so as well on v3.0.3
I can confirm that I changed the email activity name for our specific use (to 'Outgoing task: email') and the edit option appeared in activity lists and I could not view sent emails. Changing the name back to 'Email' fixed it.

Any chance the patch could make it into 3.0.5 (if there is going to be one) as well?

Nope, it is fix for v3.1. So if you need it, you will have to backport above patch to 3.0.5 or upgrade to v3.1
