Email Addresses for Multiple Registrants
January 07, 2010, 12:56:17 pm
Hello all, I have searched the forum, and have found some helpful responses, but still can't seem to get this to work correctly for me.

I am trying to set up registration for a banquet, where one person can register himself and the whole family.
I am Using a profile with simply first and last name of an individual (no other demographic info).

For the first person it asks for Email first and last, but and it does the same thing for all subsequent registrants, even though the email field is nowhere on profiles i am using for the registration form.

Anyone have any insight on how to register multiple participants with no email for subsequent registrants?

Thanks

B.

You can specify in the Event that you can use the same email for multiple registrants - I think this is what you might need to do in this case and have Person1 put in their email if they don't have an email eg for Person3.

If I do that, it rewrites the original entry with the subsequent registrations.

Hum - I don't know if that was the intention - if that is the case maybe the description needs tweaking

Check this box to allow a user to register multiple participants using the same email address. If you want additional participants to be registered without requiring an email address to be entered for each person - check the "Register multiple participants" option, AND include a profile in this registration form which includes First Name and Last Name fields.

So that sounds like it should be possible.

Are you requiring Drupal account sign up?

This is exactly how I have it set up, and it's not working, that's why I am asking the question.

On the test site if you check "Allow multiple registrations from the same email address?" then set to register for 3 participants it lets me put a new email for P2 and the same emails for P1 and P3

THANKS  shows
€ 15.00    Adult - nunquam@web.de
€ 15.00    Adult - bing@bong.com
€ 15.00    Adult - nunquam@web.de

 Just Name
First Name   Jaba
Last Name   the hut
Participant Information - Participant 2
Just Name
First Name   bing
Last Name   bong
Participant Information - Participant 3
Just Name
First Name   bingle
Last Name   bongle

But then when I get to look at the records, the record for P1 has had it's name overwritten by the name I entered for P3 if you used the same email address as P1 as obviously 'duplicate matching' has kicked in - is that what you are obvserving.

Ie Jaba the Hut (id=102) is now called Bingle Bongle - and 3 participant records have been created, 2 of which are for id=102

If so I would say that was a bug - but happy for a core civi guru to come along and explain any nuances we are both missing.

Thanks both of you, but I would like it to ask for no email address, or have it as a non required field for subsequent registrations.

i dont think that is possible at this time. you can potentially do it using a combination of custom templates and hidden fields (i..e set the email address to the same as the main participant email address and hide that field as a HTML hidden field, remove it from the template)

i think that might work. You need to be familiar with php/templates and hooks to do the change. if not, hire someone from http://civicrm.org/professional/

That's interesting, simply because when you read the instructions,  for setting up the event with multiple participants, it makes it sound like you would be able to do that. but I guess not.

Thanks again for all the help.

Is there any update on this? I am new to the forum and to CiviCRM, but this seems to be the exact problem that I am having. Many of our members don't have or aren't willing to supply an email address. Is there anyway to "fool" the system into using a unique randomly generated number as the identifier for each person instead of the email address?
