Cannot get custom data to appear during New User creation

I am relatively new to Civi and Drupal.  I am using Drupal (6.15) and Civi (3.1 b3).  I am trying to set up a test site, thumbing through docs and the forums, trying to figure things out.

I am trying to learn how to set up profiles and modify the new user sign up process and I am stuck.  I want to add my own custom fields when a user signs up for an account.  Seems simple at first.

I created a new custom field group (Admin Console - Custom Data - New Group of Custom Fields) called "Custom Profile Data".  
Used for: Contacts, Saved.

I then created a custom field within the group called "Job Role".  This was set to Alphanumeric, Multi-select, and I told it to create a new set of options.  In the new set of options I defined the job roles (Ceo, Fiscal, Technical, etc)... then saved.

Then I went into CiviCRM Profiles and created a new profile called "Employee Info".  I made sure to select the checkbox for ""Drupal User Registration", along with Profile and View/Edit Drupal User Account.

I went into the new profile and added a field:
Field name: selected Contacts from drop down list - then I found my "Job Role :: Custom Profile Data" in the next drop down and selected it.
Saved.

Then I go in to sign up as a new user and that entire profile I just created is missing from the new user screen.. all I see is the default Name and Address profile.


If I go in and change my custom field name to "Individual" from the drop down and then select "Birth Date".. THAT shows up.. but not when I select my custom data..

What am I missing here?

SOunds to me like you have done the right steps - was going to suggest you may have had to set original Data Group to be for Individuals (since only Individuals can sign up) but just tested on Demo and seems fine.

Check the demo - http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/user/register - if you get there before it gets rebuilt you should see the two examples using Data Group for Contact and one for Individual - both show.

See if you can reverse engineer - if you are still having problems then mahy be something to do with your set up.

Hmm I can do it just fine on the demo site..

Maybe it's a bug in 3.1 beta?..

I guess I'll wipe the site and recreate it using 3.0 release version as a next step.. :(

Sure - sandbox is 3.1 and demo is 3.0 so I will take the above as a slip of the fingers and assume you meant it was fine in 3.0 - ha see you just corrected that.

Would be great if you can show it is NOT working on the 3.1 sandbox here http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/search?reset=1&force=1 so it can be nailed as a bug to fix

I was successful on the 3.1 sandbox site.. so.. is that running 3.1.3?

I still don't see why it's not working on MY site..
