IE does not pull in style sheet for CiviCRM after Drupal 6.14 upgrade
January 15, 2010, 08:21:01 am
After upgrading to Drupal 6.14, CiviCRM does not read the style sheet from Garland.  I can view CiviCRM just fine in Firefox.  Drupal also views fine using Garland in both IE and Firefox.  I tried changing the administrator and user themes to different ones for CiviCRM, but it still does not pull in the stylesheet.

Basically I get a white page with the civicrm content and everything aligns to the left.  Everything was working fine before I upgraded to Drupal 6.14.  I am using the CiviCRM Theme module.

Please let me know if you have experienced this as well or there was some change that needed to be made to civicrm that I am missing as I don't see anything on the known bugs list about this.

Can you clear your browser cache and check again.

I have cleared the cache and have had other people test it off site and they get the same thing.  Sorry I should have said that in my first post.

Did you try clearing files/civicrm/template_c folder?

Just tried that and it still does not work.  Also cleared cache again in Drupal.

In my experience, IE (all versions) tends to choke if it is hit with too many stylesheet files. I have experienced this problem a number of times but only ever when I try to view the site in IE. For some reason, IE doesn't seem to have a problem with a few, very large, CSS files, just with large numbers of CSS files (even though they might individually be quite small).

The solution is to use a *real* browser ;D for development (when you're tweaking themes etc) and then, on your production site, to turn on CSS optimisation in Drupal. This will consolidate all the individual, small CSS files being provided by the selected theme and various enabled CMS modules into one humongeous CSS file.

In Drupal 6.x, look in in Administer → Site configuration → Performance under the section "Bandwidth Optimizations". Set the radio buttons under "Optimize CSS Files" to Enabled and click the "Save Configuration" button. You may have to force a full refresh in IE (Shift+Refresh), but the site should now load and display without problems.
