I understand needs to be eg IN (apple,orange) etc

But many countries have a comman in the NAME which is what Search Builder works on. Is there some other separator I can use to deal with eg Korea, Republic of?

i think search builder needs to be extended to deal with quoted strings also. that way u can say: "Korea, Republic of", "New Zealand" etc. this will need to be a code change to the Query classes in CiviCRM
