CiviMember with Smart Groups
May 02, 2007, 08:17:17 am
Is it possible to create a Smart Group that is based on CiviMember criteria? For example, I want a list of all Active individuals of a given type, so I'd search for individuals where Membership Type = Gold and Membership Status IN New, Current or Grace.

Currently (1.7.beta.9327) I can search for these members from "Find Members", but Create New Smart Group isn't one of the more actions in the drop down menu above the results list. Clicking on Advanced Search or Search Builder doesn't show any search options for CiviMember that I can see. I thought I could build this kind of search before?

Am I missing something or is there no way to get there from here?

UPDATE: This functionality DID exist in 1.6.8703. In this version, the advanced search and smart group criteria screens included clickable regions for searching address fields, custom fields, activity history ... and memberships. These JavaScript (?) regions were kind of flaky, especially on Safari. Were they removed? Or is this a bug.

Thanks, Scott

When clicking on Advanced Search you should see an area at the bottom which says "Memberships".  When I click on memberships and search for a member type with current/new the following page allows me to select New Smart Group in the pulldown menu.  See images below.

The image you posted is what I see in 1.6, but in 1.7 I don't see those controls at all. Is there a switch somewhere?

UPDATE:
[14:23] dlobo: also make sure your resource url is working etc
[14:23] dlobo: since this might be an issue with dojo and loading that

<<head-to-desk>>

I've been ignoring some weirdisms showing up in Drupal. Sounds like I need to stop ignoring them and make sure the install is 100%. I'll keep you posted.

If CiviMember is enabled, and you're NOT seeing the various expandable search section "bars" under advanced search - then it sounds like the dojo widgets are not loading properly. Most common cause of this is invalid Resource URL (under Global Settings).

My how far CiviCRM has come since the 'ole 1.4 days when all the settings were in a config file....

So I created this site using a dB export from a client's site, and so now that the value of Resource URL is stored in the dB, it was pointing to the client's site. If the Resource URL points to the wrong place, as Dave pointed out, the dojo widgets don't load.

To change the value of your Resource URL go to CiviCRM -> Administer CiviCRM -> Global Settings -> Resource URLs.

Thanks, Scott
