What is 'best practice' for making Renewal easy for Organisation members?

Using Cron:
Does cron fire it out to the email address on the Organisation Contact Record.
If so presumably we can't include checksum token in the renewal email (and do checksum tokens work through these email templates? I expect them to but not happening but maybe other issues interfering with them).

Using link to Contribution Page:
so if directed to cid and logged in, user will be given 'renew' option on Membership Page, and setting 'Existing Org' and using autofill works good.

Using Dashboard:
eg if user clicks through to their Orgs dashboard (and org ID is 39612) then the Renew page then has 39612 in the Select Existing Organisation

But this does not cause the Fields to be filled correctly

So user has to enter their Organisation name in the field to get fields to pre-populate

But if you click on the field before overwriting the ID in just the right place I get a popup but maybe that is just remembered stuff.

Anyhow this doesn't seem like great process.

If coming from Dashboard 'renew' button with the Contact ID would be great to prepopulate correctly

A couple of other useability improvements - if someone has an inherited membership there is no indication on the Dashboard about why the Renew option doesn't show up. Not sure if there could be a 'help' field available for these boxes to cover those options.

Also just spotted that 'pending' memberships show up on the Dashboard with a 'renew' option - but if you click 'renew' you go to the 'new membership' form since obviously there is no active membership that can be renewed. Not sure I can such how to improve this other than the suggestion above about a help field that might explain this.

I'm working on a similar workflow -- can you enable autofill for the Org Address Details?
CiviCRM: 3.02
Drupal: 6.14
