County Drop down has 6 spurious entries

I am running CiviCRM standalone 3.02.
I have set default country to UK and removed all States and Provinces.
For some strange reason the county drop down in the address section shows 6 counties, ALAMEDA,CONTRA COSTA, MARIN,SAN MATEO,SAN FRANCISCO and SANTA CLARA.

I don't really need Counties for our system, but if I could it would be UK ones. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the spurious ones and possibly include UK ones? I have tried adding UK counties and Provinces option but that does not make any difference.

Thoughts anyone!

You might want to uncheck the "County" option under Address Editing in Administer → Configure → Global Settings → Address Settings

CiviCRM doesn't come pre-loaded with all the counties (for US or any other country). Also, the County selection options are NOT limited by selected State / Province (as we have done with the Country > State/Province fields. That said, if you're only collecting addresses within one (or a few) states - you can probably make use of the feature.

If its important to you, you might want to write a sql script that loads all UK counties to the civicrm_county table.

Did as you said and unchecked 'County' Address Editing section of Global configuration. drop down has gone ;D
