Synching Civicontacts to jooola users
January 28, 2010, 06:53:57 pm
I'm building a new Joomla/Civi website to replace the old one.

I installed Joomla and just installed civicrm DB from a backup file. contacts are now working fine.

I don't know a way of copying "Joomla users" over as well, and it seems you can only sync users to civi contacts, not the other way around.

do I have to enter their Joomla user details manually and then synch to contacts, or does anybody know a way to get around it?

typically, not all civi contacts have a joomla user account. most organizations will maintain records in their civi db that don't necessarily have login to the website.

but should you need to pre-create joomla user accounts with civi contacts, there are several extensions that will let you import J users. so the workflow would be to export from civi the records you want to work with, then import them using one of these extensions.

if you don't want to prepopulate, you could consider using CiviUser (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Joomla!+Extensions+for+CiviCRM)

Note that it needs a little work to be updated to the current stable release.
