under the activity tab there's "send an email" "schedule  a meeting" etc. then it has "other activities" which list custom activities, is there a way to put the custom acivities on the main page togather with the "send an email"?

This is not possible via the UI etc. You can potentially do it by customizing the code and extending the activity links to include custom activities. You'll need to be fairly savvy with PHP5 and have a pretty good idea of civicrm code structure etc. If you need coding help use the #civicrm channel on IRC
