White Screen of Death when doing "send mail to contacts"

Whenever I try and do a send mail to contacts I get a white screen of death.   what can I do to debug?

Check your apache log for errors.

I"m getting nothing posted to the apache logs regarding that error...  I get the error, check my logs and it's still blank..

any other way to log the error?

solved by adding JSON support to PHP
