New user interaction, login, etc
February 10, 2010, 09:37:00 pm
Hi,

I have installed CiviCRM on a Joomla website and have been happily figuring out all the back end workings but have realized I have no idea how new users are supposed to register or login.

I want to use CiviCRM to manage club members (google checkout and a contribution page are working) and eventually to register and pay for special events.  And so far CiviCRM looks fantastic, very much the members can manage themselves.

So, what I want is to figure out how users register and get a login?  What do I need to create for them so they can register the first time and then be able to log back in and check their membership status and keep that up to date?  Does that happen with the contribution page, does it have to?

I have synced with the Joomla users but that doesn't help me moving forward.

Thanks,
Jason

Initial registration can happen as part of membership signup (on the contribution page) if you include a Profile w/ "Allow or require user registration" enabled in Advanced Settings.

Once folks have a user account / login, they can use the normal joomla login form - and you can expose the CiviCRM Contact Dashboard as a front-end menu item for authenticated users only. This page will include membership status and a 'Renew' link (if membership was created via online contribution page). You can also expose a profile in 'edit' mode for authenticated users to modify contact fields (name, address, phone, etc.).

Check the wiki pages on linking front-end pages in Joomla...

Ah, thank you.  I hadn't made it to the advanced options yet.  I will keep reading.
