Drupal User vs CiviMail Contact
February 12, 2010, 06:21:00 pm
First I would like to say that I really like the interface of CiviMail 3.1.2 over version 1.9.  I've upgraded from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 for our test system and mailings go out !!!!

I've been confused for years about how the Drupal user and the CiviMail contact records are joined.  At the moment, my main admin user.  I can see by the sent by on the CiviMail that my admin user must be connected to a dummy test contact I created, but how this happened, how to see the connection directly or change the connection is beyond me.

I ran sync users to contacts and it said it created 8 new contacts, but I don't see any difference in the number of contact records.  We do have 8 drupal users. ... oh wait, before the sync, doing a search for cms users showed none, now shows 8.  Wonder which one is my admin......  Yikes, a new CiviMail still shows created by Test yet test does not have CiviMail access. (no Test user, so I guess Test connected to admin, does.)

Hmm I think I'll delete the Test contact and log out and log in and then see who sends the civimails.

Guess CiviCRM showed me.

   Selected contact cannot be deleted.
        * This contact record is linked to the currently logged in user account - 'Test' - and cannot be deleted.
Probably got into this when I upgraded from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 and lost my contacts.

Guess I'll login as another user and delete Test ... shoot, don't have delete authority (nice feature), gave delete authority, whacked Test user.  Now my admin user is connected to the right contact record with the matching email address.   Whew.

3.1.2 is much nicer than 1.9
Thanks - I'll go find that donate button for CiviCRM - found it - maybe every little bit helps.

My gosh, I guess I'm ready to put the cron job for CiviMail in place !
