Allowing users to edit of their organization's custom data
February 13, 2010, 04:43:57 am
Hello all,

Having thought I'd been grown-up and done everything by the book I overlooked one thing, while users can can edit some of their own organisation data (with the appropriate permissions) they are not able to edit their organisation's custom fields. A lesson to everyone in database planning, test everything you want to do before you spend hundreds of hours developing and populating a complex database (of custom fields and profiles) that your users can't use. Doh!  :-[

I've come pretty far down the line now at this stage and it's either abandon months of planning and work and start again in CCK or get to grips with changing how civicrm deals with it. So I'm sitting here now with my php books around me. Anyone want to give me a start, I know that the fields from organisation that can be changed are hard coded (thanks for info Dave), is there any documentation of this anywhere?

Has anyone come up with a 'user as organisation' hack or a way of using profiles rather than adding each field?

Many thanks in advance for any ideas?

this has come up in the past, here are some forum topic discussing it and some workarounds:

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic,5186.0
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC22/Enhance+Organizational+Membership+Functionality

that might help u figure something out. ultimately it would be great if someone would step up and contribute a patch and/or sponsor a general solution for core
