Where are mailings stored?
February 14, 2010, 05:34:08 pm
I have been assigned to support a site that uses CiviCRM, and they are active in sending newsletters using CiviMail.  I want to look at some old newsletters to see how they were formatted in html, so I can prepare to create new mailings.

Where are prior mailings stored?

Thanks,
Bill D

OK, I found out where they are stored: in the database table civicrm_mailing, in the body_html field.  I was able to look at a sql export of the database, and extract the value for the body_html field.  I see that the contents have escaped values, like '\r\n' for the end of line, and <table width=\"570\"> (note the \ to escape the double-quotes).

I am a windows guy, so I would like some way to convert this back to "normal" text, well, at least normal for me, something I can open with a tool like Dreamweaver and then edit as a normal html file.  Linux guys, I have fooled around a little with your tools, and I expect it is easy for someone well versed in using those tools, but I'm not.  How can I manage this conversion?

I found that I could use EditPad Lite, and replace \r\n with a carriage return and line feed by typing shift-return in the replace box.  Then I replaced all \" with " and all \' with '

In case anyone else runs into this, I found that my account was not given ACL access to the administrators group, so I couldn't view the report of the newsletter.  Once I got this group access, I could view the report, which includes a way to view the newsletter in either text or html format, where I could grab a copy for my work.

Note that you can also take a whole mailing as a ‘blueprint’ for a new mailing.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
