It would be great to be able to manually update a registered user's name in CiviEvent.

For example:

John registers himself and guest Jim.
Jim decides not to attend, but sends Dave in his place.
John sends an email to admin asking to change Jim to Dave.
Admin cannot do this and keep Dave's registration (and payment record) linked to John's initial payment.
