VERP address is "FROM" Address ... user unknown

I've search the forums and played with my SMTP settings for hours, but can't seem to get things to work under SMTP.

Here is what my Debug Settings show:

I've verified settings everywhere I can find and searched these forums, but I'm at loss.  Can anyone help?  Thank you!

PS -- mail log only shows the following:

a few comments:

1. seems like your verp separator is blank rather than the default '.'

2. you might want to configure your smtp server to allow any "From" user connecting from your local machines. Seems like its rejecting the mail because it does not recognize the VERP address as a valid user to send email

Thanks Lobo.  I forgot to put that period back in when I was playing with my settings  :P

My host (Verio) tellis me they won't open up to allow for any mail generated on the server for security reasons. Is there any way to establish a "fixed" From address?  I understand this might affect bounce processing, but at this point I'd just like to get mail out.

I tried to override the VERP address, but I receive the same error as above.

Is there a chance that they can allow address extensions? If you have a verioclient@example.com account, you can configure CiviMail to create the SMTP envelope sender as verioclient+b.1.1.227.153.6c0da7d399c79719@example.com – most SMTP servers consider this as the same as verioclient@example.com (i.e., anything after the + is ignored).
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
