recommended spool period, batch limit settings?

Are there any CiviSMTP-recommended values for the CiviMail > Mailer Settings form? In particular I'm interested in the 'Mailer Spool Period' and 'Mailer Batch Limit', but recommendations for the other values ('Mailer Spool Limit' and 'VERP separator') would be welcome, too.

i believe the spool settings are never used. we'll confirm and eliminate them from 3.1.3 to avoid confusion

Any update on this? The settings are still there in 3.1.4, but I'm still none the wiser as to whether they are actually used, and indeed what they might be used for or how best to configure them.

we've pushed this out to 3.2

the new book (http://en.flossmanuals.net/civicrm/) explains what the settings should be. I dont think the code has caught up as yet
