Imports where working great BUT
September 27, 2007, 12:07:53 pm
either when I was "optimizing" the server or configuring access control. Now all the imports time out. And even though I get the Summary (step 4 of 4) screen nothing really happens.
Sometime it works (1 out of 100) mostly just this and then they are not there.
The file is good.
I have done 100's of these as we have moved over to this so I have seen this work well alot.
This is list is small too?
Any thoughts?

Have you checked your webserver (Apache) error log?
Are you trying with the same import file each time? Have you tried a different file (perhaps there's some odd characters or conditions in this file causing a problem)? Tried breaking the file into even smaller pieces?
Are you running the latest release of CiviCRM?

I believe it is going to come down to the apache / mysql / php settings somehwhere since that is the last change I made to the system.
Civi performed flawlessly for many many imports.
I have tried numerous files and 10 / 5/ 155 contacts its.
Still not sure since the screen at step 4 at 43% refreshes and comes to the complete screen with a report of total imported and errors.
But civi import ussually will show my the total imported into the new group.
RIght now it does not and will not let me make a group either during the import.
I mean it lets me but at the end of the above it is not there not the imports.
Again I know last weekend I optimized the server and loaded things like the expires module for apache2.
I need to see how this effected it and get things back to better.

think I have it.
I am working from another location but overall it is working.
I have made some changes earlier today that may have started to have effect.
Or the site is slower now so I can do this?
Or being at a new location?
or or or
 :)

How many fields are you trying to import?  Does that make a difference?  How many total contacts do you currently have in your database.  I've been able to import 500 or so without any issue, with limited fields, but only have 1500 contacts now (still have more to import).

No I ran into this before and even went down to 2 columns and 100 rows.
It goes to the import area with the bar
Then before the bar moves it refreshes to a screen that says (for example) 500 or your 500 contact where
successfully imported.
But they really are not there.
I want to look at my my.cf tonight.
