Joomla upgrade question
September 27, 2007, 12:57:10 pm
I have just re installed Joomla v1.0.12 core files and it fixed my lonnnnng lasting problem with the Installer Component.

I am now upgrading my CiviCRM from 1.7 to 1.8

In the Upgrade for Joomla directions it says the following:

Quote
6. Install the latest CiviCRM codebase, using the Install from Directory option. Point it to the directory HOME

Do I use the Component Installer for this? What file/folder is the CiviCRM codebase?

Thanks for just clarifying the terminology.

use the component install. You 'll need to copy the tarball up to you host and decompress it. I generally put this in a sub dir under
.../public_html/administrator/components/com_installer/component

OK. So once I've made the change to configure.php... I then recompress the folder... then upload it using Component Installer

Really need some prompt help on this. I need to clarify which file/folders I am uploading. If I follow the directions from the wiki, then it says to edit the configure file (which I have done) and then install the CiviCRM code base (not sure what that means). Do I need to recompress the .zip folder again, then upload it? Sorry but it's confusing as to which files are getting uploaded and where and when they are getting uncompressed.

Clear help needed urgently. Thanks

Spoke too soon. One minute it had been resolved (flushing the files and installing new Joomla core files) the next minute (after having upgraded civicrm to v1.8.11536) I now have the SAME problem again; no component installer. Also I now seen to have duplicate modules and administrative tabs all over the back end (Joomla). This can't be coincidence. Has no one else experienced this problem with Joomla v 1.0.12 and CiviCRM v1.8.11536 ?

Thanks

i'm not entirely sure what you mean. Civicrm is a component not a module.

I too run Joomla 1.0.12 and CiviCRM 1.8 (but not the same sub version). To install I ftp the tarball to the server, uncompress it, edit the install files as per the wiki and install from the components installer after uninstalling the previous version. Works fine for me.

What is the nature of the duplicate modules and administrative tabs? Are they Joomla or CiviCRM?

The duplicates are all Joomla modules, but the Component Installer only craps out when i install the CiviCRM component. weird.
