Blank screen when trying a 3.1.2 upgrade
February 21, 2010, 03:24:54 am
The site is running 3.0.3 without problems.

I've run through the usual steps -- backed up files and db, took site offline, etc.

I deleted the old CiviCRM folder and extracted the 3.1.2 version.

This is when I get a blank screen on all CiviCRM pages, including the upgrade page.

I've never seen this happen before. I've upgraded a whole host of sites and have never just gotten a blank screen like that.

What could be causing this?

Thanks.

1. I hope you didn't disable CiviCRM module.
2. Can you check your apache log for errors.

Nope, never even touched the modules page since none of the other CiviCRM modules are turned on except the main one.

I'll have to run it again to get any logs. I had to do a full hosting account restore (minus the SQL databases) to get CiviCRM back up and running.

I am having this same issue, but would rather not reinstall my entire server including joomla, as I'm trying to test upgrade functionality for my live server.

Regarding the suggestion of "not to disable the module", I only have the civicrm component in my list, nothing in a module. was this what you meant? or is there another module I could have disabled and not know it?

Might be a theme problem.  Try this:

Completely disable custom theme first, if necessary temporarily remove it from the server.  Switch to Garland theme.  Upgrade.  Switch back to custom theme.
Try CiviTeacher: the online video tutorial CiviCRM learning library.
