I need to register people while I'm logged in
February 23, 2010, 07:20:01 am
Okay, let me see if I can explain this...

We have an event that's almost full, so I've set permissions to allow ONLY registered site users to register for events. That means that two employees and I have the ability to put in a select few people using the online form, but Joe off the street can't put himself in. So far so good.

However, I made the mistake of registering myself for the event while I was logged in, and now I can't register anyone else. I get the "Oops, looks like you already registered" message whenever I try. If I log out, I'm not able to register anyone (permissions), and if I reset the permissions to allow for anonymous registration again, we will get unwanted registrations.

Can anyone suggest a workaround?

Thanks!

Go to the contact person, event tab, and add the registration.

You can't use the "normal" form to register, it will always register yourself if you are logged in.

any reason why you dont register a person via the admin screens?

i.e. view a contact, click on events and enter a new event registration (or credit card reg if u have the right payment processor)

We don't do it that way because the unregistered participants don't exist in any form in our system, even as contacts. Registration is how they get in there.

Then I'm afraid that's a two steps process:
- create a new contact,
- register her to the event

I would be great to have an option to register someone else than oneself using the normal registration form, but I'm afraid it'd need some community financial involvement. Do you think you could help ?

Probably. We kicked in some cash last year and could probably do it again. I find CiviCRM invaluable.

Ok, what about a new mode triggered by a new param (&forceNew=1 for instance) that wouldn't take into account the logged in user but offers to register like a regular anonymous user ?

On the registration form, add a message: don't want to register {first_name} {last_name}, register another person ?

Message displayed both on the normal form or on the looks like you are already registered.

Lobo, could you give an estimate for the dev of that ?

If this were developed it wouldn't only be used by admin users but also by, for example, parents registering children and secretaries (are you still allowed to call them that) registering bosses.

Of course the wider usage also involves people being able to select people they have permissions over & have their details autofill

i'd say 20 hours for both events and contributions. i suspect the actual code will be much less than that, but i suspect that this will introduce a few bugs/issues that we need to clean up to get it working
