so i am implementing civimember for a pol. party where there are two options for paying for membership.  monthly and annually.  there is actually no difference between the memberships apart from this fact.

monthly membership payments come from an seperate system for which i am developing a manual integration to process the contributions.  my question is, should i implement two membership types, one which has a one month period and the other that has a one year period, or should i just use my hook to manually update the membership end date of the 'annual' membership by one month each time I receive a monthly contribution?

at some point we would like to move over to civicrm for all payments (including recurring membership payments that will probably be handled by a recurring payment processor) but for now it will be the manual integration.

i realise i might be the best person to answer this question, given that i am closest to the project right now but would be good to hear other opinions / things i might not have considered, if anything springs to mind.  especially wrt recurring payments for membership
