Trying to install manually
September 28, 2007, 12:44:18 am
Hi,

I've tried to install CiviCRM like a usual component (from my C-directory) and I've tried it from webroot/com_civicrm ... but both options don't work.

I want to install the whole component manually by loading all the files to the root/administrator/components directory and to the root/components directory (and ofcourse the SQL-files)

Can someone tell me which directories I should copy to the administrator-section and which I can copy to the components-section?

We would recommend you to use joomla installer. But if you still want to do it manually you might want to check code in com_civicrm/civicrm/joomla directory and figure out how how to install manually.

Use the install from directory instructions on the joomla! installer.

What error message are you getting when installing from directory? Did you upload the civicrm install file and unpack it to a temp directory? It needs to be unpacked for that to work (you can't install from directory using the zip file).

If you need to do it the last way you suggested (which I've done at times), the best way is to install joomla on a local development server, install civicrm on it, and then upload the files from there to their corresponding folders online. I'll warn you that it will take a while. Most of the files reside in the administrator/components/com_civicrm folder, and will take some time to upload as there are a lot of files.

I've been having a lot of trouble installing civicrm 1.8.11536 on rc3. It is kind of a puzzle, but maybe I will try the local install.

Brian... I am using a local development server (Joomla PC) and I got a time error when I was trying to install the software locally... are you using any particular Joomla! package?

You may still need to adjust your memory_limit and max_execution_time settings, even though you're using a local server.
