Missing Preference Table
September 30, 2007, 06:45:17 pm
I just installed 1.8 and configured my installation to use PHP 5.2.  When I attempt to configure CivicMail, I get the following error about a missing table in the CivicSpace database:

civicrm_preferences' doesn't exist

Where can I find info on the missing table - should I just create it and what is the structure of the database table.  Also, If anyone knows, how can I find info on any missing table???  I looked through the forum and found nothing.

I suspect if you have a missing civicrm_preference table, you have a bad install. You might want to reinstall again. Also 1.9 has lots of CiviMail related improvements, so you might want to try the 1.9 alpha download. Please read the civimail install page and ensure you can meet the requirements

I ran the 1.7 -> 1.8 SQL script when I installed the new version - do I just re-run the script or do I have to back it out?

You might want to back out and go back to your 1.7 db and start the process again. Ensure that there are no errors when you upgrade the 1.7 database

I discovered the error - it was my fault.  There was an old db installation that I ran the script against - totally my fault for not looking more carefully - thanks for your help anyway :-[
