Installation Stops Without Message
March 02, 2010, 06:50:42 am
Hi there,

I'm doing a 3.12 standalone install and the install appears to "hang" whilst part way through the install.

The only warning message I get on the pre-install is that "CiviCRM needs a minimum of 32M allocated to PHP, but recommends 64M. You only have 32M allocated" but it lets me go ahead and run the install.

The install/index.php then runs and I've left it for 20 odd-mins without it displaying anything at all.  I get no output at all from it.

When I look all the civicrm_ tables have been created in the database, but when I goto /standalone I get "Could not find valid configuration dir, best guess: " as if the application hasn't been installed.

Should I have a civicrm.config.php created somewhere?  If so where should this be (/standalone, /standalone/sites/default ?).  Can this be created manually?  If so does someone have a copy so that I can set this up?

Is there any log to look at to see if I can see a problem (permissions?) ?

Thanks alot.

Check your apache logs for error messages.

However, if you're just getting started w/ CiviCRM - check this blog post "Dropping Support for Standalone":

You might consider installing under Drupal or Joomla - even if you're just using the CRM part and don't need a content management system. Drupal (or Joomla) can just handle the user record / login piece.

Thanks Dave,

Unfortunately I can't see in the hosting co's cpanel where I can get access to the Apache logs, so I might be stuck there.

I'll probably see if I can the time to install Drupal 6, though I was hoping for a quick fix to help the voluntary org I'm involved in with sort out their contacts with minimum effort.

Cheers.
