Fatal Error in Core CRM with Smarty Package... anyone?

Never saw this error in the basic installation until I turned on the various Joomla-specific extensions, so obviously I'll start to track down the offending module or plugin, but does anyone have a clue about this? (PHP 5.2, CiviCRM 3.x, etc. all up to date)

Fatal error: Smarty error: [in CRM/common/fatal.tpl line 18]: syntax error: unrecognized tag 'ts' (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 590) in /home/assur3/public_html/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages/Smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1094

what J extensions were you installing?

I have this error trying to use the UFGroup API.
