Looking for some advice how to enter contributions in this situation. Some of our donors give via a 3rd party charity. This charity takes a small fee and forwards the balance to us. The other charity sends the donor a tax receipt for their full donation (we are not responsible for sending a receipt).

We then record the amount we receive from this 3rd party charity in civi. Currently we record a soft credit against the original donor. We'd like to be able to somehow record the full amount of their donation (not the amount less fee). How/where can this be done?

Maybe a custom field (Used for = contributions with type = '3rd Party'), field type is money. Field label = "Original Donation Amount".

If you record all these 3rd party donations using a specific contribution type like this, and add that field as required (but only associated with that contribution type), then staff will always record the full amount and it will be part of the record and you can include that custom field in exports, searches, and for 3.1 you can also include custom field in Contribution Reports.
