Error moving CiviCRM & Drupal
March 04, 2010, 09:51:32 pm
I am relatively new to Drupal, CiviCRM and this forum, so I apologize if my question is stupid or if an answer is already here.
In order to use SSL with my CiviCRM installation I found it necessary to move Drupal and CiviCRM from a subdirectory on a subdomain to the main root directory of my site.  Most of the files seemed to move ok, but there was an error on the /sites/ directory so I had to recopy those files (they seemed to copy ok the second time).  When I tried to run Drupal from the new location (root) it did not function right.  So I tried to copy everything back to its former location, and now it acts like it is a brand new Drupal installation.  At that point I stopped, worried that what I have done may have damaged my data.  Any suggestions?

(Yes, I now realize that what I did was extremely stupid.)

OK, first up, did you back-up your database? If not back-up before you continue.

Do you have access to phpmyadmin and / or mysql? Can you check that your data is still all in the database.

The files you should be looking at are

settings.php
civicrm.settings.php

They will tell your server where to look for your drupal / civicrm code and your database.

I assume your apache settings are unchanged?

Also check here:

Yes, I have access to phpmyadmin and MySql, and I can see that the data still appears to be there.

I backed up drp1 and civicrm databases.  Are there other databases I should also back up?

Where are settings.php and civicrm.settings.php located?

I did not change any apache settings (although a dedicated IP and SSL were possibly being activated by the host at about the same time if that is relevant).

Thanks for your help!

Ok, I see from the link you provided that the civicrm.settings.php file should be located at <drupal_root>/sites/default
However this directory is completely empty!
Is it time for me just to reinstall drupal and civicrm?

Those files can either be under sites/default or sites/<sitename>

There are not a lot of other files in sites/default - most other files are in sites/all so getting a copy of the files, editing them & putting them where they should be would be a good next move
