Setting Default Country for a Paid event?
March 05, 2010, 04:37:35 am
I *think* this might be a bug but I'm sure someone more qualified that I can confirm.

I'm setting up a paid for event and have set my localisations to only show 1 country - in my case Australia. The same for states - just Australian.

When I test drive or check the live event I see in the Billing Name & Address section the Country drop down selector shows '-select-' plus the option of my single country. It would be nice if, as there is only one choice anyway, that that single country be set to the default.

I compared this to other profiles by building a quick profile with a Home & Billing Country. With this form I still had only 1 country set thru localisations, yet in this situation the live/test event shown the Country field pre-populated with the only choice - my only available country.

So why does the Billing Country not show the only option by default, yet it does on other profiles ?

I've tested this using the CiviCRM Joomla demo and it behaves the same as my install.

Can someone advise how I might set the Billing Country in the standard billing form to be set to the default country as standard, if not other options are present ?

Thanks.

I'd also be interested to know if it's possible to edit the fields labels ? For example I'd like to have 'State / Province' to just show as 'State' and 'Postal Code' to be shown as 'Post Code' - again any help would be great.

Cheers

i would say not setting the default country in billing country is a missing feature / bug. If important to you consider contributing a patch to fix this issue

for the second question, you might see if a different translation fits your needs better: like en_GB or en_AU. Alternatively you can write a custom translation function and change those two strings where they appear. search for 'custom_ts' in the forum post

Thanks Lobo/Peter for your replies.

It wasn't a criticism (using the word bug) but it seems that the functionality was logical and worked as expected in other forms yet didn't follow that same behavior in the Billing Country.

Re translation files - are they a static file or something more dynamic ? I only see a directory en_US in templates_c rather than a flat file ?
