Always get "This username is taken"
March 05, 2010, 11:05:21 am
I have a contribution page that requires the user to create an account, but the "Check Availability" function always returns the error "This Username is Taken".  This happens every time, even if the username really isn't taken.

I'm running CiviCRM 3.1.3 on the latest Drupal.

Can you please replicate this on http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org and if you are able to replicate, please file an issue in issue tracker.

Thanks
Kurund

Now that is a strange coincidence, as I am getting always This username is taken in Drupal registration (using a CiviCRM profile).
Something is going on.
Is this linked to the Drupal 6.16 "security upgrade"?
I went to look at the demo site, but it is not running 6.16, and I am not sure if I can setup profiles and try registration as I need to be loged-in anyway.

It is very bad, as my new users cannot register (or at least get scared away)
As new user try to register and click on the "Check Availability", they get an error: "This username is taken" for any username. We verified that it does this consistently, but that the actual registration does work if people do not try to "verify"

Any idea where to look for either
1- fixing it
2- disabling this button/feature
3- Change the text message above or below to warn people not to use it until it is fixed?

since this is the second report, most likely it is related to the 6.16 release. we'll upgrade and test sometime in the next week or two

in the meantime your best option will be to disable the "create CMS user" from your civicrm profile

even better would be for you to investigate and figure out what changed and submit a patch that fixes it

Actually I'm on Drupal 6.15.  Seems like the problem arose after upgrading CiviCRM from 3.0 to 3.1.3.

I installed the two pretty much at the same time, so you might be correct.

There was a bug check http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-5929, fix will be part of next 3.1 release.
You can also get the fix from http://fisheye2.atlassian.com/changelog/CiviCRM?cs=26505

As mentioned earlier this fix will be part 3.1.4 release ( mostly next week ). If urgent please use above patch.

same thing spontaneously happened to me.  The patch took care of it.  Thanks!
