Getting "Stop Running This Script?" on Contact Edit page in IE 7/8
March 08, 2010, 10:30:38 am
Hello, I am getting a rather confusing error message generated by IE 7 and 8 while trying to edit a Contact record on a page like this:
/civicrm/contact/add?reset=1&action=update&cid=XXXX

Attached you will see the error.

I am aware that IE (particularly IE7) is not a very good browser, and I don't like to use it myself, but the client does.  I am also aware that the script "timeout" limit can be altered by editing a Windows registry entry - but this is completely out of the realm of possibility to ask a client to take such a step on their end.

Before you recommend that the client start using Firefox, please understand that I have already taken this step, and they refused.

Is there any malfunction or misconfiguration within CiviCRM that would be causing this error, or conflict with another module or Ajax?  I have not seen this error before, even with other clients who use IE, and the client is using a rather customized version of 3.0.3.

I would use the Firebug 'console' pane to check what scripts are running and look for potential culprits. (This is 'you' using Firefox to debug possible issues on their site :-) ).

Hey thanks, just a followup, it was actually a custom Drupal module that had a lot of CiviCRM hooks to bring data onto the Summary page of a Contact record.  This was overloading AJAX and causing timeout errors (but only in IE).  Modified the module - Problem solved.
